Amazing! Congratulations on the new job! I so resonated with this! I'm in the same boat! I decided to begin writing a book. But, the changes were intense and I had a hard time riding the wave for sure! But, I seem to have found a sort of rhythm and I'm not hating it! LOL! I pray you have an amazing first day! 😃

Laura, your comment highlights another part of Amy’s reflection: sometimes the challenge is not the change itself but learning how to trust ourselves inside it. Writing a book and starting a new chapter of work may look very different on the surface, yet both require stepping into unfamiliar territory without being able to see the whole path ahead. I smiled at your phrase, “I seem to have found a sort of rhythm and I'm not hating it,” because so many meaningful transitions begin there, not with certainty, but with a growing comfort in the new season. Thank you for offering both encouragement and the perspective of someone learning to ride a similar wave.

Thank you so much for this! That's exactly what I feel like -- stepping into unfamiliar territory without seeing. I really appreciate that. You are so welcome!! 🤗

Amy, the sentence that lingered with me was, “The job is simply the first one with a schedule attached to it.” That line reframes the entire piece because it reveals that the real transition began long before tomorrow. Your reflection honors something many people experience but struggle to name: the realization that change often arrives quietly, through accumulated moments rather than singular events. I was especially moved by your description of children needing us differently and marriage continuing to become, because both speak to the courage required to embrace relationships as living things rather than fixed destinations. Thank you for sharing a reflection that treats change not as a disruption to life, but as evidence that life is still unfolding.

Congratulations on your next step and completely understand opening any door with kids nearly grown and out. I look forward to more! ♥️

Susan, your comment captures something many parents recognize immediately: milestones involving work, purpose, or new opportunities often arrive at the same time our children are stepping into greater independence. That combination creates a unique mixture of excitement and disorientation because several transitions are unfolding at once. I appreciate the way you frame it as a “next step,” because Amy’s essay feels less like a departure from what came before and more like an expansion of it. Thank you for offering encouragement that comes from the understanding of someone who has stood near a similar doorway herself.

Thank you for sharing your story and reflections on your dance in life. I’m sure the next dance step will build upon the melody. You will carry forward the richness from the past into a new song to dance to. I know you will because your past story and reflections are beautiful. It’s who you are.
